Tuesdays With Shanti's Dad

Sales Advice Column

He’s my go-to guy.
He knows how to sell (without selling).
Now, I share him with you.

Dear Shanti’s Dad,

What’s the best way to let my clients know that I really care about them professionally and that I’m not just going through the motions to make a buck? (Just telling them seems lame and self-serving.)

EJ, Milwaukee, WI

Dear EJ,

Great question. And, I have a great answer for you. Of course, you know that’s it’s your wish and responsibility to serve the best interests of your clients. You can demonstrate your commitment to that responsibility with “Response-ability.”

It’s about your ability to listen carefully to their needs and goals and to directly respond to them. Ask questions, get them to repeat anything that you’re not completely clear about. Let them know specifically what you intend to do about what they’re saying. And then follow-through in a timely manner that clearly shows you’ve been paying attention.

Response-ability. Cultivate it. It will help your business grow.

Regards,
Shanti’s Dad
